The sun came out for a beautiful Easter weekend. On Saturday, we went to church since we had heard about the community egg hunt and thought it would be fun. It was chaos!! The next day, we heard they estimated 2000 people were there. I thought the different age groups would be spread out over the campus looking for eggs. Nope. Instead, one field was divided by caution tape into 5 sectors and plastic eggs and individual candy pieces were littered everywhere. Landon was with Trenton and I was with the younger two, figuring I could straddle their two sections and keep an eye on both. Instead, this is how it played out: Blow horn sounds. Every single parent and kid rushes in as if searching for a million dollars. Kellen picks up his first piece of candy, which has melted into a gooey mess in the sunshine. I lean down to make him drop it. Look up. Sawyer is gone.
So for the rest of the hunt, I walked frantically through the throngs looking for a black hooded sweatshirt, pulling Kellen along, who in turn didn't get one piece of candy. Thankfully, someone had spotted him and lead him to the lost children's tent. When I walked up, he was crying and told me, "I kept looking at every parent and they weren't my parent." Next year, we'll stick to our own egg hunt!
Sunday, I worked in the morning so I could be off by 2:30 for Easter dinner, coloring eggs, and the egg hunt in Mimi's backyard. She found sports baskets and plastic eggs, which made for a super cool hunt. They each looked for the eggs to match their basket. This time, Kellen actually got some eggs!
I kept trying to capture a shot when one of the boys actually found an egg. This picture made me laugh. I'm a step behind, so Landon is trying to hold Trenton back until I'm camera ready.
The group shots didn't turn out near as well. By this time, they just wanted to open the eggs and get the treasure!
We finished the day by dyeing eggs and Landon loved carrying on his childhood tradition of the "poop egg," which soaks in every color and turns a gross green-brown. Then he started what I'm sure will be a new yearly tradition of writing "Mom Smells" with the wax crayon on one of the eggs so it stood out bright white after being dyed. The boys thought this was hilarious. Just another day living with 4 boys.
